The Red Sea Development Company, responsible for TRSP, is committed to achieving a net-positive impact on biodiversity while developing the site for sustainable tourism.

Marine Spatial Planning for Conservation Outcomes
To ensure that the development of TRSP aligns with conservation goals, marine spatial planning (MSP) has been employed to optimize the conservation of the Al Wajh lagoon within the project area. The Al Wajh lagoon encompasses 92 islands with valuable habitats such as coral reefs, seagrass, and mangroves that are of global conservation importance. By carefully designing and planning the development, TRSP aims to enhance conservation outcomes rather than jeopardize them.

Conservation Zoning and Protection Strategies
Through MSP tools like Marxan, TRSP has created a three-layer conservation zoning plan to protect key areas within the Al Wajh lagoon. This zoning strategy aims to achieve conservation outcomes equivalent to those in an undeveloped scenario. Additionally, TRSP has designed additional actions to alleviate existing pressures on the environment and generate net positive conservation outcomes.
