The Role of the Family and the Teacher in Eearly Childhood Education

In a child's development, stimulation has a special significance. By stimulation is
meant motivation. The child acts and reacts on getting appropriate opportunities. She/he
learns from these actions and reactions, and this in turn speed up her/his development.
The initial interaction of a child is with her/his parents. She/he spends most of the time
with the family. We all know that, it is the duty of the parents to bring up the child, but
this should not be limited to merely providing nutritious food or clean clothes to the
child. Parents often forget that they have a major role to play in the development of the
child's personality.
Children will want to experiment and "play around" with objects and materials
before using them in prescribed ways. Their knowledge grows as they interact more
with these materials, learn to think about them, and organize them in their minds. After
exploring, children begin to show signs of being ready to learn by asking questions or
by trying to make something. This is when they respond well to instruction. Having
learned something new, children would want to practice again and again through
activities that the teacher plans for them. Sufficient practice would establish the learned
skills or concepts enough to allow children to apply them in different situations. The
teacher's role is to first recognize this exploratory nature. He or she can then facilitate
more complex learning by asking meaningful questions and creating situations where
children can apply and use what they have learned. In writing, for example, children
who have little opportunity to write will just scribble first and attempt to make different
kinds of marks on paper using different writing materials. Later they will start imitating
shapes and print in the environment.
