Socio-demographic correlates of lifetime risk The associations of sex and education with first onset of any anxiety, any mood, and any behavioral disorder were examined by cohort using discrete-time survival analysis (detailed results are available on request).None of these ORs varies significantly across cohorts (?23 = 0.7-1.7, p = 0.64-0.84).

Socio-demographic correlates of lifetime risk
The associations of sex and education with first onset of any anxiety, any mood, and any behavioral disorder were examined by cohort using discrete-time survival analysis (detailed results are available on request). Women were found to have significantly higher odds of anxiety disorders (OR = 1.8, χ21 = 17.4, p < 0.001) and non-significantly higher odds of mood disorders (OR = 1.6, χ21 = 3.6, p < 0.10) than men and to have significantly lower odds of behavioral disorders (OR = 0.38, χ21 = 5.0, p < 0.025) than men in the total sample. None of these ORs varies significantly across cohorts (χ23 = 0.7-1.7, p = 0.64-0.84). The educational categories considered here, in comparison, are not meaningfully related to lifetime risk of anxiety disorders (χ24 = 2.1, p = 0.72), mood disorders (χ24 = 4.9, p = 0.29), or behavioral disorders (χ24 = 4.9, p = 0.29).
