Original text

Mitosis:
A type of cell division that produces two daughter cells, each with the same number and type of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, which is normal in normal tissue development.
Interphase:
A stage of the cell cycle in which the cell copies its DNA in preparation for mitosis.
Prophase:
The process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus of the parent cell into two identical daughter cells.
Metaphase:
A stage during cell division. Normally, the individual chromosomes are spread out in the cell nucleus.
Anaphase:
The process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus of the parent cell into two identical daughter cells.
Telophase:
The process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus of the parent cell into two identical daughter cells.
Meiosis:
A process in which a single cell divides twice to produce four cells that contain half the original amount of genetic information.

Interphase:
DNA is replicated in the cell, resulting in two complete sets of identical chromosomes.
Prophase I:
The DNA and protein complex known as chromatin condenses to form chromosomes. The pairs of homologous chromosomes are known as sister chromatids, and remain attached at a central point called the centromere.
Prophase I:
The pairs of homologous chromosomes line up on either side of the equatorial plate.
Metaphase I:
Begins when the homologous chromosomes separate, the nuclear envelope forms, the nucleoli reappear, the chromosomes wrap around, the nuclear membrane begins to disintegrate, the centrosomes move apart, the spindle fibers form, and the sister chromatids line up on the equator of the cell.
Telophase I:
The chromosomes assemble at the poles of the cell, and the cell divides by cytoplasmic division to form two daughter cells. The nuclear envelope reappears, the spindle apparatus disappears, and the chromosomes condense again to form chromatin.
Prophase II:
In each daughter cell, a new spindle apparatus is formed, the nuclear envelope breaks, and the chromatin condenses again into chromosomes.
Metaphase II:
The chromosomes line up along the metaphase plate and microtubules originating from the centrosomes at opposite poles of the cell attach to the kinetochores of each chromosome.
Anaphase II:
The sister chromatids separate and are pulled by microtubules to opposite poles of the cell.
Telophase II:
The chromosomes reassemble at the poles of the cell and the cell divides by cytoplasmic division to form two daughter cells from each of the two cells from meiosis The nuclear envelope reappears, the spindle apparatus disappears, and the chromosomes condense again into chromatin.
