A genome sequence is not an end in itself. A major challenge still has to be met in understanding what the genome contains and how the genome is expressed. Attempts at understanding what a genome contains make use of a combination of computer analysis and experimentation, with the primary aims of locating the genes and determining their functions. This chapter is devoted to the methods used to address these questions.
