Perhaps there is no storage in the strict meaning of an oversupply deliberately but away as insurance
against time of need, such as the energy storage of triglyceride and glycogen. Also , although cholesterol is an integral part of cellular and subcellular structures, under certain conditions the amounts of cholesterol in cells and tissues would seen to be much in excess of immediate metabolic needs Table (2-1).
Cholesterol is easy soluble in body fat, which is mostly triglyceride, by this means a considerable
amount of unnecessary cholesterol can be retained in the body, predominantly as free cholesterol. From studies on the rat it appears that the total adipose tissue cholesterol level is dependent on age, dietary cholesterol load, early nutritional history, and the size of adipose mass itself 66.

accumulated by any cell, and in large measure this balance is controlled by the degree of saturation of the extracellular lipoprotein carriers.
