Enanos sufren deficiencia de hormona de crecimiento (GH) producida por la glándula pituitaria. Anteriormente, se extraía GH de cadáveres infantiles, método insuficiente y con riesgo de infección. En 1979, la ingeniería genética permitió producir grandes cantidades de GH insertando el gen humano correspondiente en bacterias. Estas bacterias, en gran número, producían y luego se refinaba y probaba la hormona. En 1985, se confirmó su eficacia para tratar el crecimiento limitado en niños.

·In 1979,by the genetic engineering technology,scientiss manufactured sufficient amountsof human growth hormone by inserting a human gene that carries instructions forinformation of human growth hormone into DNA nucleic acid of the bacterial cells.
·In this way,they were able to produce and collect large amounts of the human growthhormone by great numbers of bacteria (in which this gene was inserted)then,this hormonewas refined and tested.
·In 1985,the researches conducted on this hormone proved its validity for the human use totreat the children of the limited growth.
