Responsibilities of Engineers and IT Professionals:
Engineers and IT professionals play a critical role in ensuring the ethical use of facial recognition technology. They should:

Advocate for Ethical Design: Promote the development of technology that incorporates privacy-by-design principles and embeds ethical considerations from the outset.

Conduct Impact Assessments: Before deployment, evaluate the potential impacts on civil liberties, privacy, and societal values, especially regarding marginalized communities and consumer rights.

Engage in Continuous Education: Stay informed about the evolving legal, ethical, and social implications of facial recognition to guide responsible decision-making.

Facilitate Public Dialogue: Encourage discussions among stakeholders, including the public, about the technology's benefits, risks, and governance to ensure informed, democratic decision-making.

In both inquiries (law enforcement and marketing), these professionals should insist on measures that protect individual rights and promote fairness, transparency, and accountability to prevent ethical violations.
