• It needs for metabolic energy (ATP).

Active transport
• It is the transport of the substance through the cell
membrane against concentration or electric
gradients (physic-chemical gradient). It is energy
(ATP) dependent.
• It needs carrier to work against a concentration
gradient (from low concentration to high
concentration, Uphill).
• Active transport is an example of carrier-mediated
transport >> has a saturation property as in
facilitated diffusion, which will be limited by the
amount of the carrier and amount of energy
available for the process.

Na K pump has ATPase enzyme →Metabolic energy
Transport 3 Na to outside the cell & 2 K to inside the cell

has its own energy (primary)

• Calcium (Ca+2) ATPase pump in muscles and mitochondria
membranes.
• Hydrogen (H+) ATPase pump for HCL secretion in stomach.
