I mean I used to think of slavery as being very bad but now I see it is more complicated than that. What really surprised me is that there were slaves who looked white. I am talking about slavery. How it affected people like Eliza and her son, who could pass as white people. This really helped me feel bad for them in a way I felt like I could understand what they were going through rather than just feeling sorry, for them because of slavery.
